Aluminum

Aluminum

All forms of aluminum from window frames to soda cans are accepted. Aluminum cans and pie plates can be included with comingled household items or separated. All other forms of aluminum is considered scrap metal and goes into the scrap metal container.

  • Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth and most popular item recycled.
  • A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the store shelf as a new can in as little as 60 days.
  • Aluminum is a durable and sustainable metal: two-thirds of the aluminum ever produced is in use today.

Advantages of Recycling

The recycling of aluminum can produce huge cost savings over the production of new aluminum even when the cost of collection, separation and recycling are taken into account.

More importantly are the environmental benefits of recycling aluminum. Only around 5% of the CO2 is produced during the recycling process compared to producing raw aluminum from bauxite ore. According to the EPA, aluminum cans account for 1 percent of the total U.S. waste stream.
