Electronics & TV's
Computers, cell phones, cell phone batteries, keyboards, televisions, stereos, speakers, these items are separate from all other types of recycling.
Electronics & Tvs have valuable, reusable and toxic materials that require proper end of life disposal. |
Facts On Electronics
- More than 3.2 million tons of electronic waste is laid to rest in U.S. landfills each year
— Environmental Protection Agency
- In 2007 of the TVs, cell phones and computer products ready for end-of-life (EOL) management 414,000 tons was collected for recycling.
- Lead, mercury, cadmium and brominated flame retardants are common important performance characteristics and toxics found in electronics. Improperly disposing of these materials can cause serious public health problems through soil and waste pollution.
E-Waste
There is an estimated three billion electronic devices total — in the US alone. Given the large amount of potential products involved, e-waste includes a broad range of devices. Unfortunately, improper disposal of e-waste creates a significant burden on landfills because toxic substances can leach into the soil and groundwater.
Electronic waste accounts for 70 percent of the overall toxic waste currently found in landfills.
